Socrate (2024)

July 25th, Gay's The Word
Satie's an odd composer. I knew little about him, except from a delightful chamber opera.
Then came this project - a little salon, trying to capture the environment of the premiere of Satie's Socrate. Informed by queer Parisian life in the period, it mixed the games of interactive immersive theatre (with guests being given goals around patronage, social rivalries, and so on) and beautiful music.
It was a lot of fun for a one-off gig; I enjoyed the chance to play an over-the-top host. Even if I'd not like to transport a high-end electric keyboard alone on public transport again.
Thank you for reading this.
